Coach Matt Austin

Coach Bios

Matt Austin-

I started playing rugby while an exchange student in Chile, then played for the University of Pittsburgh. I’ve been a teacher and a coach in New Orleans for over a decade. I coached Tulane University’s men’s club, Nola Barbarians, and Lake Area HS -as well as a few years as a coach with the HS State All-star team. I’m currently in my third year as the Commissioner of the Deep South Collegiate Rugby Conference and was formerly the VP of Louisiana Rugby. I’m a founding member of American Youth Rugby, where I serve on the board of directors.

Victoria Miller-

I started playing rugby at the University of Alabama in 2013. I had never played before but 3 years later, I was an officer of the club. I met my very best friends through this sport and it helped me figure out who I am. I’m now an English teacher at Bonnabel High School. The opportunity to introduce students to the sport I love is the most exciting thing ever!

Lindsay Voves-

I started playing rugby in college for Tulane. I always played sports growing up– everything from swimming to cross country to field hockey. Naturally, I fell in love with rugby as soon as I started playing and it quickly became a large part of my life. I now play for Louisiana Lagniappe and am generally an inside center or a flanker! When I’m not playing rugby, I’ll either be hanging out with my dog, Sully, or at work at YouthForce NOLA, where I help find meaningful work opportunities for public school students in New Orleans.

Brittany Vegso-

Brittany is thrilled to coach the Nola Barbies and introduce rugby to new players! She has played rugby for 14 years and coached youth rugby for 3 years. Brittany currently plays for Louisiana Lagniappe women’s club and has been selected to play at various tournaments with the USA South Panthers. Brittany began playing rugby her freshman year of college at Penn State and went on to win 2 national championships while she was there. She is excited for the opportunity to share the sport and the camaraderie of rugby with the young women of New Orleans.
